Brogues

|| Iron Fist || Topshop ||

I adore my black heeled brogues - they're so elegant - but I would really love some flat brogues too for casual wear. Though the white crochet lace ones by Topshop look perfect for summer, I think I like the tan-coloured tapestry ones most. Which one's your favourite?

Now a little lesson on definitions. Oxfords are shoes that have 'closed lacing', like the show on the right, below. Its defining feature is this closure style.

Brogues are shoes with the decorative perforations and serration on the edges of the pieces of leather. Its defining feature is the pretty little holes. So the shoe on the right above is also a brogue shoe. Now if you look at the ten shoes at the top of this post, you can see that while all of them are brogues, not all of them are Oxfords.

  2. Hmm, I never really knew the difference. All this time I've been calling my favorite pair of shoes "oxfords" when I really should have been calling the Derbys or Brogues. Great lesson! :]

  3. I didn't know this difference either. Actually this is the first time I've heard the term "brogues". Live and learn! (The floral brogue is adorable!) x

  4. I wear brogues for work, and I love that every day I get to put on such prety little shoes. Even if they are slowly getting ruined by spilling alcohol and ketchup on them... (I work in a bar). I love the black lace ones in the picture, if only I could afford more than one pair x)

  5. I just want to them all!, think Gollum and that's me with these shoes.

    I have to refer to them as 'man-shoes' so my boyfriend knows what I'm talking about!

    Great post!
